These guided tours of the Gaiety Theatre offer a detailed look at both the building itself and its place in Manx cultural life. Visitors are taken through more than a century of local social history, alongside the story of the theatre’s development, survival, and restoration.
The tour begins in the front of house, where the decorative features and auditorium design are explored, before moving behind the scenes into the practical areas that support live performance. From there, the route continues beneath the stage into the trap house, an area not normally open to the public, where the Corsican Trap is displayed, a rare stage mechanism unique to the theatre.
The experience concludes with displays of historical costumes and a lighting museum, including early electrical stage lighting and original projection equipment, giving insight into how productions were staged and presented over time.
