The Henry Bloom Noble Library, established on 29 November 1886, is a cornerstone of the community in Douglas. Originally located next to the Town Hall in Ridgeway Street, the library moved to Victoria Street in 2003 and then to its current location on Duke Street in 2016. Named after the generous benefactor Henry Bloom Noble, who significantly contributed to the Isle of Man, the library welcomes all residents to join for free.
With a collection of over 30,000 items, including books for all ages in various formats, audiobooks, and a wealth of resources, the library caters to diverse interests. It also features an IT suite with access to PCs, free Wi-Fi, and facilities for printing and photocopying. For those interested in family history, Ancestry is available via the library's computers. The library hosts a variety of community activities, including reading groups for adults and children, weekly preschool story times, craft sessions, and guest lectures on numerous topics.
In addition to its physical offerings, the library provides a 24/7 online service featuring eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers, and valuable online reference resources, including Encyclopaedia Britannica and Oxford Online.
