No visit to the Isle of Man is complete without seeing "Lady Isabella."
Built in 1854 to pump water from the deep lead and zinc mines of Laxey, this red-and-white giant is the largest working waterwheel in the world. It is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering that attracts visitors from across the globe. You can climb the spiral staircase to the top platform (72 feet high) for dizzying views of the glen, or watch the massive crank arm in motion.
Beyond the wheel itself, the site allows you to explore the mine adit (tunnel) equipped with hardhats, and walk the woodland trail along the former rod-ducts, offering a fascinating glimpse into the island's industrial past.
