Description

Note: Currently affected by closures/forestry work (Fall 2025).

Tholt-y-Will is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular and rugged glens on the Isle of Man.

Set deep within the upper reaches of the Sulby Valley, the glen features a steep, winding descent alongside a cascading mountain stream. Towering Douglas Firs and dramatic rocky outcrops frame the path, creating an almost alpine atmosphere distinct from the island's other woodlands. The trail descends from the mountain road near the Tholt-y-Will craft centre down towards the Sulby Reservoir, offering thunderous views of the water after heavy rain.

It is dramatic and moody, often shrouded in mist. When open, it serves as a challenging connector for hikers moving between Snaefell and the northern glens. Due to the steep terrain and narrow paths, it is traditionally a spot for more agile walkers seeking dramatic scenery.
