A spectacular secluded bay on the west coast, Niarbyl (Manx for "The Tail") is famous for its rolling coastal views and the iconic white-washed cottage that stands right on the shoreline. This traditional fisherman's cottage was a central filming location for the movie Waking Ned, doubling as a remote Irish home.
The bay is also a site of immense geological significance; the Niarbyl Fault marks the line where two ancient continents collided 400 million years ago — you can literally stand with one foot on tectonic North America and the other on Europe.
The beach is rocky and steep, making it better for rock-pooling and photography than swimming. It is widely considered the best sunset spot on the island, offering views all the way to the Calf of Man.
