Description

Douglas City Council serves as the local government for the capital of the Isle of Man, and was awarded city status by Her Majesty the Queen in 2022 as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Known for its vibrant economy, Douglas is a hub for finance, e-gaming, and has notable aircraft and shipping registries, along with a burgeoning space industry.

Rich in history and culture, Douglas boasts a strong community and stunning natural surroundings. As a proud partner of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man, it is the only nation globally recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and green initiatives.

Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the horse-drawn tram rides along the charming pedestrian promenade, lined with beautifully restored 19th-century buildings, independent boutiques, and popular High Street shops. The Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre Complex provide diverse entertainment options, including performances and films, while the city's parks, gardens, and museums offer ample opportunities for relaxation and cultural enrichment.

The Henry Bloom Noble Library, named after a local philanthropist, offers members free access to a vast collection of newspapers and magazines from around the world, available in 47 languages from 130 countries. Douglas is truly a thriving capital city, focused on community and culture.
